Orifice Flow Calculator
The Orifice Flow Calculator is made available from Daniel Measurement and Control, Inc. to assist in the calculation of orifice diameters. For a given set of input variables, the Orifice Flow Calculator will display the respective beta value (ratio of orifice diameter to pipe diameter), pressure differential or flow rate.
Values for the beta ratio are approximate, typically within 2% – 5% for gases and steam, and 1% for liquids. The ASME MFC-3M 1989 equation is used in this program along with several assumed factors, which are noted on the printout. This program does not take into consideration two calculation variables – the Reynolds Number correction and the expansion factor. For gas calculations with high operating pressures, greater inaccuracies will occur if no compressibility correction factor is entered.
The Orifice Flow Calculator is provided for estimation purposes only. If it is necessary to have a closely specified pressure differential, flow rate, or bore diameter, please consult your Daniel representative for assistance.
Final selection decisions may be influenced by information not evaluated by the Orifice Flow Calculator and final selection responsibility is that of the individual user.
